My Opinion Regarding mTLD’s Decision To Release Single and Double Character .mobi Domains

Filed under: Uncategorized on 17th Nov 2008 by Jamie Parks

To those who have not heard, ICANN has just approved mTLD’s request to release single and double character second level domain names. You can read mTLD’s blog post about it for more info.

To anyone in the .mobi domaining community, this ‘approval to release’ was certainly not unexpected. I’m looking forward to seeing how the registrant approval process is going to work for these single character .mobi’s – Seem’s like some type of bidding by applicants will still take place in the event that there are multiple parties interested in using a particular domain.

Before any of my beloved L-L.mobi comrades get too discouraged about the news of 2 character/number domains being released, remember, you guys saw this coming and knew that more than likely it was going to arrive in the form of RFP, “request for proposal”. So what’s the harm done? Well, we’ll all just have to wait and see =) In my opinion .mobi is taking an appropriate measure to generate ‘quality controlled channels’ which will only stimulate and further fortify the use of the .mobi brand as a powerful communication vehicle.

Will this latest ‘approval to release’ by ICANN be enough to substantiate the value of the .mobi brand once and for all? Or will it be the end of all end alls for the, controversially fledgling TLD? I personally think not, but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more doom and gloom coming from the mainstream domainersphere shortly.

Things like:

“mTLD does it again! Trademark hijacking TLD fails to allow the free market to decide who owns, and what gets built on, it’s most valuable properties.”

I’m sure we’ll here worse. Anyway… Take it with a grain of salt. I for one, will be interested in seeing how and to whom mTLD hands the reigns of these powerful domains over to. This process may take years, but mTLD RECEIVING THE APPROVAL to release these short domains is the key point here.

Will multinational companies line up at mTLD’s doorsteps to apply for use of these domains? Maybe they already are. The smart ones are (will be)…

FROM mTLD’s blog: “Both set of domain releases demonstrates dotMobi’s continued commitment to secure quality, innovative content that best serves the needs of the mobile community.

Keep the faith. The success of the mobile web is up to ALL OF US.

Frager Versus Fulton: Gentlemen, please stop it!

Filed under: Uncategorized on 9th Nov 2008 by DNBlogger

Most of you probably already know about this war going on between Owen Frager and Mark Fulton.

I won’t add any more negativity to what is already going on between them.

I won’t even repeat here who did what.

But I will say that this war is being taken to a very nasty level and which is not good for anyone.

Not only are you guys hurting you own brands, but also the domaining itself. This verbal dual coming from two pros doesn’t give a good feeling to the domaining community.

I will urge you gentlemen to:

Please STOP it. You will do everyone a favor.
