Time to let the Domains that aren’t paying their way drop!

Filed under: Uncategorized on 27th Jan 2009 by admin

Every name in our portfolios has been registered because we think we can make money off it. The sad thing is not all of them will sell. A few of them may pay their way with parking income, but even that is unlikely.

So the others just sit there burning a hole in our pockets as we wait for the big payday to come along.

Now I’m not going to tell you what your strategy should be, only what I’m doing going forwards and that is to let all of the names I don’t think are good enough to drop. It’ll probably be about 100 to 150 in total and all of them were hand regs.

So we’re looking at just over $1000 in savings on renewals. Sure I may have sold one of them and been able to pay for the others, but why would I want to do that. In times like these I want to be lean and mean with cash on the side. Not worrying about the fat I should have shed in the first place.

I think a problems quite a few domainers have is that they fall in love with their names. They see the potential in each and every one of them, but it’s this mindset that will bleed you dry in the end.

Because at the end of the day we’re in business and all businesses need to make a profit if they are to survive. (unless you’re a bank ;-) So they get ruthless, they come down hard on suppliers, let staff go, cut advertising, etc.. and that’s what we have to do.

Think of your domain as a salesman. He might be a great guy, but If he isn’t making any sales he’s just an expense. There’s nothing wrong with him, but you can’t afford to keep him around. It’s that simple.

Going forwards I think we’ll be seeing a lot of the faddish type domains appearing in the drops, such as the lower quality LLLL.coms. As I can’t for the life of me see any value in names like: xqzh.com (maybe I’m missing something here.)

It’s also worth remembering you might get something for them on the forums. If you have a large amount of names you could offer them as a cheap package deal.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

James

Domain Laws

Filed under: Uncategorized on 26th Jan 2009 by Hostix

You know ho when you buy a car you have to have insurance its the law. When you are driving you have to have license its the law. But what laws are there for domaining? I am not talking about cybersquatting or something small. I am talking about laws t prevent you getting over run.

What about a law to prevent you from buying a x,xxx domain for sale that has stats but when you park it or develop it you do not see the results. You have no one to protect you from this. This can really be an issue when buying an expensive domain.

Do the Research on every domain.
If you are buying a developed name, make sure its been developed the right way, not ban from google, wasn’t thrown together in an hour and put up for sale. if you want to start out fresh then you have nothing to worry about.

If its to good to be true?
Then it probably is, remember that all good things come in time and do not happen over night. You have to work for what you get just like anywhere else. Choose your options carefully to get the most out of what you want.

You have the ICANN to do some of the work to protect you, and some state laws cover you, But what if you need some help with the law? Get a Lawyer that specializes in the domaining/online industry.

In Part 2 I will explore the laws you do have that protects you from State laws to ICANN and more information to help you keep your safe from getting the law used on you and protecting yourself on the internet.

Thank.

Quick Notes

Filed under: Uncategorized on 25th Jan 2009 by Hostix

Yes this is the old DNWords.com and Yes this is a nice plain and very oldish looking template, but my site has changed the way I look at domaining, I do not need web 2.0 style to have a great blog.

The Style of my blog was to make it easy to navigate not all flashy and techie looking, but simple for the user(you) to find what you wanted from this blog.

The content is the most important thing about a blog and the content is what I will be bringing you. If You have visited over the past few days. You have seen a few different templates and I found this one. yes I did edit the header and I hope that was not against the copyright notice, but I am in no way claiming the entire blog theme to myself and I want you to know that there are some fabulous themes at the link in the footer.

I also want to thank Ross for adding my blog to SocialDN.com & CoreyG of DailyDomain.us about posting about the new blog.

Thanks Guys

Baidu.tel domain not in Chinese hands

Filed under: Uncategorized on 24th Jan 2009 by admin

The baidu.tel domain name has been secured by a Netherlands-based Internet services company instead of China’s largest search engine, both called Baidu.

Telnic, the UK-based registry operator for the new .tel top level domain, yesterday confirmed that Baidu Europe, the Netherlands-based automation and Web design solutions organisation has secured the rights to the baidu.tel domain name in the trademark protected Sunrise period.

The Sunrise period for .tel domain registry will close in less than two weeks, on 2 February. Thereafter, Landrush begins when any individual or company can purchase any available .tel domain.
